On Saturday 12th February Lancaster took a team of 8 boys and 3 girls to a tournament in Stirling against 5 other teams – Glasgow A and B, Stirling, Dundee and St. Andrews. The teams were placed into two divisions, with Lancaster being in a group with Stirling and Glasgow B.
Lancaster got off to a good start, beating Glasgow B 11-4, with Alasdair Grubb scoring 4 goals!
However, Lancaster immediately played Stirling straight after, and tiredness began to show, ending in Stirling beating us 9-4, meaning that we placed second in our division. For our 3rd and 4th place playoffs, we faced Dundee.
This was a very tight match, with the full time score after 10 minutes each way being 4-4. To decide positions, a penalty shoot-out took place, with 3 players from each team taking one penalty. Dan Korkz scored the first penalty, and a great save from keeper Steven Moulton put Lancaster in the lead.
James Place scored the second penalty for Lancaster, and Ben Jennings the third, meaning that Lancaster won the shoot-out 3-2, and came 3rd overall in the competition.
Stirling went on to win the competition, beating St. Andrews 10-4 in the final match.

Lancaster University 15 - 5 Manchester 2nds
Today’s match was the first game of the u-polo group, facing opponents Manchester 2nds. The match got off to a very slow start, with Manchester scoring first, and Lancaster levelling up shortly after, making the score at the end of the first quarter 1-1.
In the second quarter, Lancaster began to pull away, with 4 goals from Decland Ellwood and 1 goal from Ben Jennings, ending the quarter 5-1. In the third quarter, Lancaster managed to slightly increase their lead, winning the quarter 4-3, making the score 9-4, with goals coming from Matt Byrne,
Stephen Moulton, Alastair Grubb and Decland Ellwood. Going into the last quarter, Manchester seemed defeated, with Lancaster scoring 6 goals, with Jake Thornton, Dan Korkz and Andy Greaves putting their names on the scoring sheet. This made the final score 15-5, which is a very pleasing score for the first game of the u-polo league.

Lancaster University 16 - 14 Liverpool University
Today’s game was the second in the u-polo league, with opponents coming from Liverpool University. The match got off to a very good start, with Shu putting away 5 goals, and Andrew Barratclough scoring 1, making the score at the end of the first quarter 6-3.
The score increased again in both the second and third quarters, with goals from Dan Korkz, Andy Greaves, Shu and Andrew Barratclough, making the score going into the last quarter 13-8. However, in the last quarter, Lancaster began to struggle, giving away silly goals, and Liverpool managed to pull it back, levelling the score at 14-14. However, with goals from Ben Jennings and Shu, Lancaster managed to edge a victory of 16-14 against Liverpool.

Lancaster University 17 - 7 MMU Cheshire
As one of the better teams in the league, we knew MMU Cheshire was going to be no easy match, and we went into the game at full belt, with Decland Ellwood, Shu and our guest visitor Simon Rigby opening up the score sheet, ending the first quarter 5-1. In the second quarter, the same fire continued, with Steven Moulton adding his second goal in the u-polo league, and the end of the quarter ending 8-3.
In the last two quarters, MMU Cheshire failed to respond to Lancaster’s performance, with Lancaster winning the third quarter 4-1 with Simon Rigby, Andrew Greaves, Decland Ellwood and Shu all scoring. Again, in the final quarter, Lancaster won the quarter 5-3, with Andrew Barratcloguh getting his first goal of the game. The final score ended Lancaster 17, and MMU Cheshire 7.
This is a very pleasing result, placing us currently at the top of the u-polo league, and gives us a lot of confidence going into next weeks match against Liverpool John Moores.
